Weekly for the month of August - Vocal Jazz Jam & Workshop with Lenora Helm, This workshop is designed for vocalists to learn jazz performance concepts to gain skills and confidence with the stylistic, rhythmic and melodic choices needed to successfully perform in the jazz genre, including learning how to choose repertoire and finding the best key. Participants will have a chance to also explore working with a pianist, guitar or small combo at the jam session immediately following the workshop. Advanced students can work on vocal improvisation (according to skill level) and being able to recognize the basic skills nuanced in performance between vocalist & rhythm section to prepare vocalists to lead a band or successfully work with instrumentalists. All levels and ages are welcome. Instrumentalists are welcome.
Workshop is 5:30 - 6:30; Jam begins at 7 pm.

8/6 Week 1 Melody & Improvisation
8/13 Week 2 - Rhythm & Improvisation
8/20 Week 3 - Phrasing/Lyric Interpretation & Improvisation
8/27 Week 4 - Songwriter Workshop; "Even if it's your own song, you still have to learn how to sing it!"
